W00t! The Internet Public Library turns 15 years old in March! Celebrate by taking part in the IPL’s “15 Things” challenge – try out the IPL’s fifteen favorite online technologies: blogs, microblogging, wikis, social networking, virtual worlds, podcasting, videos, forums and web boards, RSS, document sharing, social tagging, reading, awareness tools, text messaging and images/photos.
For each technology, the IPL will provide background information, links to readings, information on how the IPL is using the technology and a space to try out and practice the technology for yourself. Each week the IPL will update the featured technology on their website. For those that try out and complete the IPL 15 Things challenge by April 17, 2010, their name will be put into a drawing for a $50 Amazon.com giftcard. Boo-yeah!

I am super, super excited to share that I will be interning with the Internet Public Library through the upcoming summer semester! I am looking forward to contributing to the teaching and learning mission of the IPL by assisting the Researcher in Distance Education with a few of her (many!) exciting projects. I will be working in the IPL Learning Community, assisting with reviewing and posting student answers to the IPL Answer Board and adding information to the reference wiki. I also plan to help out with building upon the Web Technology collection for IPL reference.
I am very thankful for this opportunity and look forward to starting soon. The IPL has an interesting history and is supported by students and administrators from all over the United States. Participating schools include, but are not limited to, Florida State University, Drexel University, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Syracuse University, Rutgers, University of Washington, University of Pittsburgh and the University of Carolina at Chapel Hill.
