Overstream: add subtitles to video

Sep 12th, 2009

To make your videos more accessible – and reach a greater audience – adding subtitles is a good way to go. Overstream provides an easy way to add subtitles without having to download anything — their browser-based interface (aka. the Overstream Library Manager) makes it easy to add in subtitles. You can add subtitles at any time, for any length. Obviously there is a limit – you can’t fancy-schmancy it up with alternate fonts and different colors, but it does the trick. You can save your Overstream videos and have the option to save, email and/or embed them into websites (see what I did below). If you don’t want to create your own subtitled videos, try searching through the rest of the Overstream community‘s videos – there’s a lot of cool stuff out there.

Within a matter of minutes, I subtitled a 30-second test video starring my dog, Casper. (On a side note–I know she looks like a hot mess. I usually groom her but I missed the mark in this impromptu video. Please forgive me–I’m not a bad momma, I promise).

We use DotSub – http://dotsub.com/ to create a subtitle doc that we could then add to an existing HD YouTube video:
