Google Books adds LIFE Magazine archives to its collection

Picture 6Back in March of 2009, Google Images added archives (1860’s through the 70’s) from the Life photography collection; now they’ve added the archives from the magazine to its vast collection. If you like all things vintage, take a look — the magazines are readable from cover to cover — you can see all the old-school advertisements in the midst of reading about many truly historic events. The archives go back to 1935 and run through 1970, covering a rich amount of history: World War II, the Great Depression, the Koren War, Vietnam, the assassinations of JFK, RFK, Martin Luther King, Woodstock, Watergate…

This particular issue (Sept 24, 1971) has a fun section on rock stars and their parents, complete with images of rockers with their parents at their childhood homes. (I particularly enjoy the picture of David Crosby in his groovy get-up, mustache and long hair, sitting next to his straight-laced dad in a suit–check out page 54).
